TV and new shoes

We have finally sorted out digital TV and next week we'll get broadband. Tried to get new shoes today as well, but that would be too good to be true. They are ordered though and hopefully I will treat my feet and legs to a new pair of shoes next week!

The life in Sligo

We've been here for almost a month now and it's still strange. It will take some time to get used to this place. I guess being broke doesn't really help. We can't afford to do anything, and we stay in most of the time. So far we've been to the pub once... that's not like me at all. I think the rain and the lack of friends might be the reason for that though. We might as well sit at home and stare at each other, than sit in the pub and stare at each other. I'm not complaining though, it's pretty cosy to inside when it's cold and rainy. And we got plenty of board games and films!
Workwise I'm a bit bored at the moment, but that was expected. The lab is in bits still and I'm in the office most of the time. In the office I don't have computer properly set up yet. So far I've been carrying my laptop back and forth, but I hope to sort out a desktop this week.
It all sounds very pessimistic.... doesn't it?! Well, I'll tell you, this place will be lovely in the spring, and it's beautiful, honestly!!

new place

Since my internet connection is so freaking slow I can't be bothered to put the pictures of our new place in here.... though you can have a look at http://kajsadocdub.blogspot.com/ to see them. It's all in swedish, but not important.

New home

We have finally found a place in Sligo and we are leaving the Fair City tomorrow. We're gonna miss Dublin but it'll be nice with the lower rent and all the space! I will put up some photos as soon as possible.

Goran

Finished the book about Goran. It was a completely new genre for me. Very amusing. I think I will read more political memoirs. But now it's time for criminal novels for a while.

I want a pet chipmonk

This is a picture from a pet shop. They sell toys for animals, among other things they sell rat rope bridges. If you look a little closer you can see that they are also great for chipmonks...

Good weekend

Had a calm and relaxing weekend. Went for a walk with Jonny and Carina, since the weather was so good. We caught up in the evening as well for dinner at Balti, Indian place. It was nice, too nice... we struggled to fit some beer in our stomachs.

Yesterday I went in to town to do some shopping. Boring stuff, like headache tablets. Met up with Carina for some coffee and window shopping. Came home and turned the radio on for the big game.... Kalmar FF (the good team) vs. Elfsborg. Kalmar won and I was celebrating in the bathroom, that I was cleaning at the time.

The good thing about living alone...

is all the books you have time to read. Finished Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince yesterday, and was really surprised by how it ended... no, no, I won’t tell!
Now I'm reading something a bit more mature, the memoirs of Goran Persson (former prime minister of Sweden).

Weather forcast

Sometimes I wonder if there's any point to predict the weather in Ireland...

All alone

Lem went to Australia yesterday and I'm all alone!! I miss him already and I wish I was in Australia too. Next year!
The positive thing about being alone is that I can read more books. No distractions!

half day off

Just finished one of those massive experiments today. Feel a bit drained now, and think I will go home and relax. I need the energy for the rest of the week. Have to start another experiment tomorrow, maintain some cells, go through the raw data from the previous experiment, and read some paper. On top of that, my sister and her family will come over to Dublin for the week-end. It's gonna be full on, but loads of fun. The little energy I've got left today is gonna be spent on organising some events for the week-end. A trip to Newgrange and the Viking Splash Tour. How does that sound!?

Relaxing

Had a relaxing weekend. Well needed. Lem had the Sunday off and we spent the day in town. Photo exhibition and coffee in St Stephen's green. Lunch in the Italian quarters and a flick "Mama Mia!". Had a couple of pints in Gerge's Archade Bar and had take-out for dinner. So relaxing!

Dead experiment

I didn't work late yesterday. The experiment crashed and I stopped it. Usually I would be angry and mumble some swearwords, but I was so tired and pretty happy about going home earlier and sleep in!
So, I spent the evening having a couple of pints with my working mates to celebrate a freshly produced doctor from Focas, and going to bed early with a film, kebab, and Lem.

hard work

Another day of fun fun. I will be working late. I'm under the stop watch again and I'm running in and out of the lab like a dizzy hen. I hope it'll be worth it!

Last weeks hard work gave some results! Unfortunately Cancer scored 1-0.

A pint in the middle of an experiment

In the middle of an experiment. It's Friday and I'm dying to go for a few pints. And I will, but first I'm gonna go home and have a nap, 'cause I didn't get much sleep last night. Finished work half ten yesterday and started at 6.45 this morning. I start 6.45 tomorrow as well, so it'll not be late tonight. But I need a pint for my own sanity. Cheers!

Wednesday 20 August 2008

work, work

This afternoon I will start a new BIG experiment. I'm already concentrating on NOT fucking it up. There's a few things that can go wrong. Wish me luck!

Our new home town

The weekend in Sligo was good and strange. It feels a bit scary to actually move there. It's so much smaller than Dublin, and it feels so remote. Anyway, we both liked Strandhill, situated a few kilometres away from Sligo town. It's a village by the sea, with cosy bars and restaurants and surfers. Sligo town is nice too, but very quite on Sundays...
It felt nice to come back to Dublin yesterday, though I'm sure we're going to love Sligo once we're settled in.

Sligo

Was in Sligo yesterday to have a look at my new college. It seems nice, and the town even better. I will go there again over the weekend, but with Lem. We need to check the place out to find a good spot to live in. I'm looking forward to getting out of Dublin for a couple of days. I need to stay away from work!

Tuesday 12 August 2008

Working late

It's gonna be late today. My supervisor, James, left me with some more work and went to pick up his son from the creche. You can't really argue with that. I've only got a book and some food to come home to (Lem is working untill eleven). Right now I'm having my emergency "cup-a- noodle". Important stuff. No food, no work!

Under the power of cells

If you have ever read the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, you know that it's the mice using us for experiments and not the other way around...
I start to beleive that my cells are working with me! Yesterday I was about to start a new experiment that takes three days. Went in to the lab to check the fellows out, and they said: "We don't want to work today, we are tired and want to sleep. Come back tomorrow!.... We don't care that you have to work on Saturday!"
I had no choice than to leave them alone and hope for better luck today. They decided for me to work on Saturday! They are really testing me!!

Wednesday 6 August 2008

Jose Gonzalez

Yesterday me and Lem went to see Jose Gonzalez at the Academy. You've got to love him. The biggest disappointment was that they didn't sell any records, actually nothing. We started a new record collection when we moved to our new flat at Mountpleasant avenue. We've got three so far, and last night we were getting number four. We were so disappointed. Oh well, the gig was great and made up for it.

Bank Holiday weekend

The weekend all been waiting for! Well, we had completely forgotten about it and had plans to pay Sligo a visit. Bank Holiday weekends are mad and we couldn't face the traffic and the probably high hotel prices, so we stayed home.

We had a very dry weekend too! Starting with Batman on Friday, a quite night in on Saturday, shopping in Dundrum on Sunday, and shopping with Jonny yesterday. Lem was off course working Saturday and yesterday, poor thing.

Kajsa goes English

I have for some time been asked to translate my Swedish blog into English...
Well, I'm not going to. Though, as a compromise I'm starting this new blog and will try to keep you up to date in the future.
